M-Commerce: 7.3 million mobile phone users shop via mobile monthly—3.9 million weekly, 2.1 million daily


Internet Retailer published this week some stats about mobile commerce. It is interesting to see how this new channel for retail keeps growing and growing, and also what the industry leaders are doing for m-commerce.

Data from web and mobile web measurement firm comScore Inc. show that what retailers and experts alike have been saying of late about mobile commerce is true: 2010 was a breakout year for m-commerce.

7,296,000 mobile phone users accessed mobile commerce sites and/or apps one to three times a month on average for the three-month period ending November 2010, comScore finds. That represents 3.1% of the 234 million U.S. mobile phone users age 13 and up. 3,853,000 accessed m-commerce sites and/or apps at least once a week, comprising 1.6% of mobile users. And 2,120,000 went mobile shopping almost every day, representing 0.9% of users.

8,632,000 mobile phone users have accessed a mobile commerce web site. 3,952,000 have accessed a mobile shopping app.

Of m-commerce sites and apps, following are the 10 most-visited retailers and the average number of unique monthly visitors for the three-month period ending November 2010 (totals include both sites and apps):
